Hot, hotter, hottest –the norm for this month along the Gulf coast. What gardeners like you and me need most is WATER! I’ve got seven 50 –gallon rain barrels in tandem, collecting water from my roof. Every time it rains, I get 350 gallons of clean rainwater, devoid of chemicals. You might want to consider this. There are multiple choices of materials and shapes for rainwater recep-tacles—from collapsible tanks to those that look like brick walls. Remember that rainwater is free. And you can capture thousands of gallons per year. You can be assured that the cost of water will never be as low as it is now, so rainwater catchment is a great way to plan for the fu-ture. It’s time to prepare for your fall garden. In some ways, fall is as good or even better than spring gardening. Planting this month will generally give you at least three month to grow before the first frost, which in is somewhere around the middle of December. See USDA cold hardiness zones here. And I’ve seen tomato plants produce well into December. So don’t be afraid of planting in the fall.
